What is a Steward?
A Steward is a person who volunteers their time to protect and maintain a specific sanctuary in a specific part of Michigan. An MNA Steward believes in the Mission and goals of MNA, and volunteers their time in monitoring, special projects, and educational events at a sanctuary. Ideally, each MNA sanctuary would have a Steward, but there are still a few sanctuaries without stewards. Other sanctuaries may have needs that require more than one. Become a steward today to actively protect one or more of Michigan's special natural areas.
Requirements for being a Steward
Becoming a steward is a great way to feel connected to nature, and stewardship is often very rewarding for those involved. Doing your part to help protect Michigan's natural areas has never been easier, since the minimum requirement is to visit a nature sanctuary once per year and report on its condition through the monitor report below. The ideal steward leads field trips and educational events at the sanctuary, marks boundaries, and maintains trails. If you are interested in becoming a steward, please contact MNA Stewardship Coordinator Andrew Bacon by email at abacon@michigannature.org or by calling our office.
