Openings on Staff: Outreach and Development Specialist

The Michigan Nature Association, a statewide land conservation organization headquartered in Williamston, Michigan, is seeking exceptional candidates to join our fundraising and communication team.  Outreach and development specialists work together and with other staff and volunteers to implement and revise MNA’s marketing and fundraising plan. 

Responsibilities:
The outreach and development program includes donor support, donor moves management, grant writing and general outreach.  As a specialist, your duties may include:

  • Assisting Executive Director in qualifying and cultivating potential major and mid-level donors
  • Scheduling and provide staff support for donor meetings
  • Producing accurate and timely donor communications (gift acknowledgements, renewals, etc)
  • Preparing fundraising reports for Executive Director and Board of Trustees
  • Managing donor databases
  • Identifying fundraising opportunities from foundations, corporations and public sources
  • Writing grant proposals and tracking grant funding
  • Tracking grant deadlines and projects
  • Completing grant reporting
  • Attending meetings and giving presentations to both groups and individuals
  • Creating promotional materials
  • Producing an accurate, professional quarterly newsletter
  • Generating digital and print materials for communications (website, social media, presentation materials, deadline specific items)
  • Maintaining and promote MNA’s website
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Executive Director and Operations Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one to two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with the principles of nonprofit fundraising
  • Knowledge of and commitment to MNA’s mission
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign
  • Website design and maintenance experience preferably experience with Drupal
  • Demonstrated success in organizational and communication competency areas
  • Ability to coordinate major member events

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience soliciting gifts
  • Experience work with interns and volunteers
  • Experience working with or knowledge of natural ecosystems.  Ability to recognize plant and animal types.
  • Experience with DonorPerfect

Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience. Health insurance benefits, life insurance, disability insurance, paid vacation, and a 403(b) savings plan are all provided.
