| Bullock Creek
80 acres in Midland County
Located off 5 Mile Road near Freeland Road, Bullock Creek is just a short drive from Midland. The sanctuary consists of a series of dunes that used to cover most of the Saginaw Valley. Over the years, most of these dunes have been mined for sand and lost. The forty foot dunes create a series of wetlands seperated by upland woods.
The quick changes in landscape allow for a variety of plant and animal life. Some of the more interesting plants are a white variant of blue bottle gentian, starflower, trailing arbutus, wild iris and white violets. The sanctuary is also home to badgers, long-tailed weasel, green heron, and the great crested flycatcher. |
