Russell and Miriam Grinnell Memorial Nature Sanctuary at Bare Bluff
160 acres in Keweenaw County
Originally known as Bare Hill, and later as Bear Bluff, Grinell is located near Lac La Belle and Bete Gris off Smith Fisheries Road. Grinnell contains a number of impressive geological features such as the 200 foot cliff that extends almost to the summit, 588 feet above the lake. A small waterfall can also be seen from the lake
Access is difficult and
dangerous. Reaching the lookout requires a 300 foot
climb, but both the lower and upper level are accessible
