369 Acres in Chippewa County
North of Tahquamenon Falls, on a remote stretch of Superior’s shore, sits one of MNA’s largest sanctuaries. A few poor roads point toward the area from south, east and west, but none quite reach it. Its native residents include deer, bear, and coyotes. This sanctuary holds next to top standing in the number of Michigan endangered, threatened, or rare plant species found in MNA sanctuaries.
The beach itself is never the same; what is found along its various bands depends upon changing water levels and the severity of the past winter’s storms. Your first visit to this sanctuary should be guided. You must be willing to walk miles and spend all day. Check for announced MNA field trips to experience this amazing sanctuary. |
