40 acres in Marquette County
Getting to this sanctuary is half the fun. The logging road that leads to the sanctuary off County Road 510 is often washed out, forcing visitors to walk the final mile. However the views are magnificent as the 80 foot high rock escarpment slowly closes in around the road.
At the high point on the property the creek is 200 feet below and you can see for miles around. When the leaves are turning, usually around October 1, the view is especially breathtaking. The lowlands around the creek are also worth visiting. Depending on the year, the creek can be a small stream surrounded by goldenrod and Joe-Pye weed, or it can be so broad that it merges into the swamplands to the south. |
