| Osceola Woods
47 acres in Osceola County
Located a half-mile east of Highway 66 along the Osceola/Missaukee County line, Osceola Woods was established as part of a DNR effort to preserve Michigan’s population of the prairie chicken.
The prairie chicken was once common throughout
Southwest Michigan’s natural prairies, and was able to spread north following the lumbering days and great fires. However, too much habitat was lost, and despite the best efforts of MNA and DNR, the prairie chicken is now considered extinct in
Michigan.
