100 acres in Keweenaw County Located halfway between Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor on M-26, This sanctuary is an example of a northern dry-mesic pine forest. Trees characteristic of this forest type include: white pine, red pine, aspen, and birch. As you explore, look for signs of beavers as well as the transition of the forest into sugar maple and yellow birch. Upson Lake, which lies within the first inland valley from the shore of Lake Superior, occupies roughly a third of this site. |
