Sharon Zahrfeld Memorial
Sharon Zahrfeld Memorial.
32 Acres in Genesee County
Located near Linden, Save It Creek runs through the center of this sanctuary that was acquired in 1997.
Sharon’s life was a covenant of service to family, church, community, and nature. Her professions included: youth minister, engaged couples counselor, liturgical environmental artist, office manager, art gallery owner, MNA and library volunteer. Fisherwoman extraordinaire. She taught us to be caregivers of all creation great and small. To promote habitat restoratation, a “wild corner” was designated in her garden. Sharon called the chickadees and they responded. Back and forth, they sang - a melody of love among God’s wonderful creatures.
The seasonal variation of the creek's water level plays a vital role in this southern floodplain forest community, which is one of Michigan’s most endangered habitats. An ideal time to visit is in spring when you can see diverse wildflower displays.
